Change to the Management Board of SBB.

The Board of Directors of SBB has appointed Jürg Schmid as the new Head of the Passenger Division and as a member of the Management Board. The 47-year-old economist is currently Executive Director of Switzerland Tourism and is expected to join SBB in the second quarter of 2010. Until then, Vincent Ducrot will continue as interim Head of the Passenger Division.

Jürg Schmid. Jürg Schmid, 47 years old, is moving from Switzerland Tourism to SBB. At its November meeting, the Board of Directors of SBB appointed him Head of the Passenger Division and member of the Management Board. Schmid is taking over from Paul Blumenthal, who left the SBB Management Board as per the end of September 2009. «I am pleased that we have secured Jürg Schmid as a successor because he has in-depth knowledge of marketing,» said SBB CEO Andreas Meyer after the appointment was announced. «Jürg Schmid is very knowledgeable about the needs of our customers as well as the concerns of Switzerland and its regions.»

Jürg Schmid has been the Executive Director

of Switzerland Tourism for the past ten years and has been instrumental in developing Switzerland's presence as a holiday, travel and congress destination both nationally and internationally. In this function, he has cooperated closely with SBB for years. Prior to this, from 1994 to 1999 he worked at Oracle Software Corporation Ltd., first as Sales Manager in the Switzerland region and subsequently as Head of Sales and Marketing for the NCEE & CIS, MEA Region (North, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia & CIS, Middle East and Africa). At Oracle he was responsible for the development and management of international partnerships. From 1992 to 1994 he was Managing Director of Chris Data Vertriebs AG, following three years as an Account Manager at Hewlett Packard Switzerland. Jürg Schmid studied business administration at the HWV School of Management Zurich and continued his training in IT and marketing for a number of years. In 2007 he completed the Advanced Executive Management Program (AMP) at INSEAD in Fontainebleau. Jürg Schmid is married, has three children and lives in Canton Zurich.

Jürg Schmid knows the Swiss and European leisure travel markets inside out and is very knowledgeable about the needs of Swiss consumers. He has many years of managerial experience and a broad-based background in sales and marketing and in running complex technology projects.

He is expected to take over as Head of the SBB Passenger Division with its 13,000 employees in the second quarter of 2010.

Vincent Ducrot will continue to head the Passenger Division ad interim, as he has done since February of this year, until Jürg Schmid takes up his new position. The Board of Directors and Management Board wish to thank Vincent Ducrot for this extraordinary commitment. In the first half of 2009, the SBB Passenger Division again improved its performance. In the first six months of the year, it carried a total of 164 million passengers and posted revenues of over CHF 3.7 billion.
