ERS Railways puts faith in SBB Cargo International.

SBB Cargo International, the intermodal transport and block trains specialist, has begun operations with an important success on the market. The new rail freight operator has increased its shipments for the Netherlands-based ERS Railways by 270 container trains a year.

ERS Railways is stepping up its cooperation with SBB Cargo International and awarding the Swiss rail freight operator a substantial contract for the next two years. "In SBB Cargo International we have found the right partner for this important corridor, and we believe in the success of this new company," says Frank Schuhholz, Managing Director of ERS Railways, of the close partnership between the two companies.

The existing Rotterdam-Melzo and Rotterdam-Padova routes will see traffic increase in stages in 2011 by 270 container trains to a total of 1,350 per year. ERS Railways will run the containers and swap bodies from Rotterdam to Basel, where SBB Cargo International will take over and haul the shuttle trains across the border into Italy and back. "This transport package is a positive endorsement of our focused service offering tailored to market needs," explains Michail Stahlhut, CEO of SBB Cargo International.

ERS Railways is a Dutch rail freight operator specialising in intermodal transport, and belongs to the global A.P. Møller - Mærsk Group. The new company SBB Cargo International is the specialist in intermodal shipments and block trains on the European north-south corridor.
