|Jürg Stöckli (41) is returning to SBB after an absence of almost four years. At its April meeting, the Board of Directors of SBB appointed him Head of the Real Estate Division and member of the Management Board. Mr Stöckli will take up his new position by 1 March 2011 at the latest. Urs Schlegel (62), the current Head of the Real Estate Division, has decided to begin his retirement when Mr Stöckli takes over. «I am pleased to announce that in Jürg Stöckli we have found a professional real estate expert to succeed Urs Schlegel who knows SBB and its real estate business,» said SBB CEO Andreas Meyer after the appointment was made. «Jürg Stöckli is very familiar with both the needs of our customers and the concerns of the cities and|
municipalities in which SBB Real Estate operates.»
Since 1 January 2010 Mr Stöckli has been Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the national property service provider PRIVERA AG, headquartered in Berne. In this capacity, he is responsible for real estate services throughout the Eastern region, for the sister company PRIVERA Services AG and for the company's Business Development department. Mr Stöckli began his career at PRIVERA AG as a branch manager in Zurich before taking over the Eastern region. From 1 September 2008 he also assumed the strategic leadership of the sister company PRIVERA Services AG with almost 1,000 employees, and in this role he has been responsible for providing technical and infrastructural support for the company's properties.
The lawyer and trained carpenter previously occupied various positions within SBB Infrastructure and SBB Real Estate between December 2001 and December 2006. From 2005 until the end of 2006 he was a member of the Management Board of SBB Real Estate, where he headed the «Legal and Procurement» unit. Jürg Stöckli has an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen and is a qualified solicitor in Canton Berne.
Urs Schlegel (62), the current Head of the Real Estate Division, is to retire. At the request of the CEO of SBB, Mr Schlegel agreed in 2007 to continue his work as Head of Real Estate beyond the normal retirement age for SBB senior management until late 2010/early 2011 as part of the internal SBB Consulting Group. He will hand over leadership of the Real Estate Division to Jürg Stöckli by 1 March 2011 at the latest.
Following various positions both in Switzerland and abroad, Urs Schlegel (b. 1948), Lic. oec. HSG, joined SBB in 1981 and served as head of properties from 1992 to 1996. Following a two-year tenure as SBB General Secretary, Mr Schlegel once again took over as Head of the newly renamed Real Estate unit in 1999. In the years that followed, he has constantly expanded the division in a target-oriented way and has developed it from one of SBB's sideline ventures to a core business and an important factor in the company's overall result. In 2007 Urs Schlegel was appointed a member of the Extended Management Board of SBB, and from 1 January 2009 he became a member of the SBB Management Board. At the same time, the Real Estate unit was officially made a division of SBB. By taking the division in a new strategic direction, Urs Schlegel has successfully transformed major stations into attractive shopping and service centres and has improved the range of services and offers available from all station categories. Areas close to stations have been targeted for development and improvement. The creation of Corporate Real Estate Management has resulted, for example, in SBB office space concepts offering attractive, low-cost workplaces. The Board of Directors and Management Board of SBB thank Urs Schlegel for his outstanding achievements on behalf of the company and in particular for his diligent work on the further development and successful positioning of the real estate business, which today represents a key pillar of SBB's entrepreneurial activity. SBB will continue to draw on Urs Schlegel's wealth of knowledge and experience during his planned future role as a consultant.
