Contract for 286 multiple units for regional services: appeal against the award to Stadler Rail.

Rolling stock manufacturer Alstom has lodged an appeal with the Federal Administrative Court against the award of a contract for multiple units for regional services to Stadler Rail. Whether the procurement of the 286 trains will be delayed by the appeal and for how long cannot be determined at the present time.

The Federal Administrative Court has notified SBB that Alstom, an unsuccessful bidder in the tender process, has lodged an appeal against the award of a contract for 286 new multiple units for regional services.

Throughout the entire procurement process, SBB attached the utmost importance to complying with legal requirements. Orders for rolling stock are subject to public procurement law (PPA/PPO) and SBB has complied with these provisions. The offer made by Stadler Rail best met the tender criteria. Stadler Rail was awarded the tender for this reason.

Whether the procurement of the 286 multiple units will be delayed by the appeal and for how long cannot be determined at the present time. The delivery plan proposes the deployment of the new single-deck trains from the end of 2025 until 2034. SBB is procuring the new trains together with its subsidiaries Thurbo and RegionAlps.
