SBB Online Train.

The information requirements of passengers and railway operators are rising steadily. Passengers expect information on stops, connections or disruptions to train movements while railway operators benefit from information regarding customer frequencies or monitoring security in public transport.

The SBB Online Train is a future-oriented, modular ICT solution designed for railway operation. It combines various functions:

  • customer information inside and outside the train
  • video surveillance
  • passenger counts
  • remote diagnosis
  • CAB radio
  • internet and GSM use by train passengers

The basis: our Online Train Platform.

At the heart of SBB Online Train is our Online Train Platform. This is a central platform housing the functionalities required by the various applications. It minimises space requirements, saves energy, and generates little waste heat.

Customer information.

Visual and audible customer information is provided to indicate the chronological sequence of the next four stops, the starting place and the final destination. Stops and intermediate or transfer stations are shown on the exterior of the train. The destination is shown at the front and rear of the train, while information provided inside the train indicates the side to alight from, the next stop and the final destination.

CCTV security.

Closed-circuit television surveillance is an effective instrument in public transport. A recorder unit directed at the vehicle, vandal-proof cameras and assessment stations meeting data protection requirements. Use of the emergency intercom activates the video system’s alarm mode, and filming frequency is increased tenfold.

Automatic passenger counts.

Accurate and automatic collection and statistical analysis of passenger numbers is a central element in public transport. Data is recorded by infrared sensors over the vehicle entry points and the doors between 1st and 2nd class. This data is then transmitted online and processed centrally.
