Morges station is approaching capacity. In the near future, its facilities and platforms will no longer be able to adequately handle the number of passengers who stop there every day. The infrastructure needs to be upgraded and better connections must be created between the districts to the north and south of the station.

The project is being carried out in two stages – the first priority stage concerns platform 1 and the second concerns the entire station, including the MBC facilities.

Platform 1 at Morges station.

Platform 1 will be extended to enable 400m-long (IR and RE) trains running between Lausanne and Geneva to stop at the station. This will lead to a better distribution of passengers, making their journeys smoothers, as well as improving comfort and security on the platforms. The modernised platform 1 will also enable level access to the trains and comfortable step-free access for people with reduced mobility, pushchairs and passengers carrying a suitcase.

Morges station.

To modernise and improve the level of comfort in Morges, all the platforms will be equipped to receive long-distance service trains, to make it easier for passengers to board (level access) and to provide shelter for passengers (platform canopies). From these new platforms, passengers will be able to access the three underpasses, including two for pedestrians, (equipped with stairs, ramps and/or lifts) which will run towards the north of the station.

The MBC rail facilities will be modernised. Their functionality will be maintained and capacity for freight traffic will be doubled.

• Platforms extended to 420m long to ensure safety.
• Construction of a compatible underpass to the east.
• Reconstruction of a central pedestrian underpass.
• Entire station to be adapted to conform with the law on accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
• Modernisation of the MBC facilities:
  • Reconstruction of two pits for freight train transhipment (beet and gravel).
  • All railway facilities to be fully maintained (metre & standard gauge).

The costs are estimated at CHF 10 million.

Financing is provided under the service agreement.

The costs are estimated at around CHF 145 million.

Financing is provided under the Expansion Step 35 (ES35) of the project to fund and expand the rail infrastructure (FERI).
