SBB makes a significant contribution to climate protection in Switzerland and aims to be climate-neutral from 2030.
Rail travel is environmentally friendly: modal shift can reduce Switzerland’s total emissions by around 10%. And SBB’s climate strategy and the aim of climate neutrality by 2030 are taking it a step further. As a government-owned company, SBB wishes to set an example for others to follow.
Measures for achieving climate neutrality.
SBB sets its CO2 emission reduction targets in line with the stipulations of the Science Based Targets initiative. SBB plans to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and reduce them by over 90% by 2040. To achieve these ambitious targets, SBB is saving energy, committing to renewable energy and replacing industrial gases which are harmful to the climate. From 2030, the remaining emissions will be compensated to achieve climate neutrality.
