Adapting to climate change.
SBB is keenly aware of the risks associated with climate change. It is therefore adopting a range of adaptation measures to increase its resilience and reduce the negative impacts.
Climate change poses various challenges for SBB: rising temperatures and increasingly frequent extreme weather events such as torrential rainfall or heatwaves negatively impact safety, reliability, the health of customers and employees, and SBB’s financial situation in a variety of ways. SBB analyses the impact of climate change in collaboration with external research and advisory institutions. This involves considering a “medium” and a “high” future emissions scenario in the short, medium and long term and deriving adaptation measures from this analysis. In this way, SBB minimises the risk of significant, weather-related impacts on people as well as damage to the environment, rail infrastructure, rolling stock, buildings, goods and installations, or climate-related delays in procurement.
