There are two kinds of internship you can complete at SBB: the commercial internship and the IT internship as a Computer Scientist in Application Development, Federal VET Diploma. Having completed your basic school education, you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain valuable work experience for your future career.

Whether you want to complete your school-based basic education or you still need practical work experience for your further education, you can take the next step in your career with a one-year commercial internship at SBB.
The commercial internship lasts for a year and starts in either February or August.
Secondary level commercial school.
The internship marks the end of your school-based basic education at your upper-secondary level commercial school. As an the holder of a Federal VET diploma with a vocational baccalaureate, you will be able to enter a university of applied sciences.
Private trade school.
Internships are the final stage of the basic commercial training provided by private trade school. With the Federal VET Diploma (EFZ), you can enter professional life or attend further training at a higher technical college.
Gymnasium.
With the commercial internship, you gain your first professional experience after graduating from high school and also fulfil the requirements for study at a university of applied sciences.

IT internship: Computer Scientist in Application Development, Federal VET Diploma.
After your three-year education at secondary level IT school (IMS), you will complete a year of work experience to deepen your knowledge and gain valuable experience. You will apply the theoretical knowledge you gained at school at SBB.
The IT internship as a Computer Scientist in Application Development, Federal VET Diploma lasts one year and starts in the summer.
The internship year is part of your education at secondary level IT school. You will therefore write an individual practical assessment (IPA), which will be included in your Federal VET Diploma together with the IT module grades from the first three years of school.
There are no more lessons during the internship.
Completion of the internship provides examination-free access to the universities of applied sciences for computer science and economics and to higher vocational education and training programmes.
You will create software and databases with the help of new and agile development languages.
From the outset, you will be working on large IT projects and helping to bring them to life in line with customer requirements.
You will check your work and test applications before users use them.
After completing your internship, you will have the following opportunities for further training:
