Specialist units.
Find out which specialist units we offer the Way-up programme in:
As an IT specialist in application development with a federal VET diploma, you develop applications for our internal and external customers from the first draft, through testing, to the finished application. You work closely with developers, mediamatics technicians, clients and our customers. You solve tricky technical problems and learn how to design user-friendly applications.
Requirements.
You have obtained your university entrance qualification (gymnasiale Matura), have a logical and analytical way of thinking, and like to work in a structured manner. You enjoy working on the computer and in a team just as much as you enjoy finding creative solutions. A practice-orientated apprenticeship with accompanying work experience appeals to you and you would like to join us for at least two years.
Taster days.
You can see the great things our IT trainees achieve on a day-to-day basis at first hand during a taster day. Dive into our world of information technology and get inspired by the various possible careers. The taster days are organised by our training partner Login and take place on our premises.
After completing the taster day, you can apply for an officially advertised position with our training partner Login. Once your documents have been reviewed, you will be invited for an interview.
You will be personally informed of the specifics of the subsequent procedure by our training partner Login. If both parties are in agreement, our training partner Login will issue you with a contract for an apprenticeship based at SBB.

You benefit from a reduced training period. Instead of completing the apprenticeship in four years, you will complete it in two, and have very good chances of finding a permanent position with SBB following successful completion.
Career coach.
A coach will accompany and support you over the entire training period, providing individually tailored and knowledgeable support. The aim: to make the best use of your strengths and achieve goals which are tailored to who you are.
Benefits.
During the entire training period, you have the benefit of a 2nd class GA Travelcard. Up to the age of 20, you can enjoy six weeks of holidays. You can also benefit from your own choice of additional educational opportunities, such as language courses, stays abroad or specific IT certificate courses. Keep on developing, and get Switzerland moving with us.
Network building.
Thanks to the fact that you will be assigned to various departments within IT or mediamatics, you will be able to build up a large network.
IoT power plant application.
When the clock-face schedule has many trains setting off at the same time all across Switzerland, intelligent sensors switch the air conditioning and heating off for a few minutes at just the right time, unnoticed by the customer. This state-of-the-art IoT application saves us a whole power plant of energy.
Mobile app for the visually impaired.
Those who are visually impaired or blind can use the SBB Inclusive app to listen to the visual customer information at the station and on the train using their own mobile phones. Bluetooth beacons make this possible.
Blockchain in the world’s longest railway tunnel.
In the Gotthard Base Tunnel, we use blockchain technology to open doors. This ensures that only authorised staff can access specially secured areas.
