Any accident is one too many. Every day, ‘No Risk’ reminds employees never to take unnecessary risks and to always adhere to defined processes and safety instructions. Applying this approach in practice helps ensure accidents are avoided and improves health and safety for both staff and our customers.

In addition to personal conduct, PPE plays a vital role too in protecting employees from harm and injury. SBB employees receive modern, up-to-date PPE which complies with the relevant standards and provides them with optimal protection. To ensure PPE meets staff requirements, that it can be used in practice and that it receives wide acceptance, staff representatives are involved in its development at an early stage.

The use of certain chemical substances in some operational processes is unavoidable. However, SBB aims to reduce the use of dangerous substances as much as possible.

For example, it places greater emphasis on biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning products which still guarantee top-quality cleaning performance while also minimising environmental impact, such as in the case of graffiti removal. This not only reduces risks for staff, but also helps to conserve natural resources.

Another major step is the electrification of construction sites and fossil-fuel-driven traction vehicles. This reduces the use of diesel, which can be harmful to the environment and to health when handled and burnt.
