The requirements are the same for SBB staff and third parties: 

• SBB user account / user ID.
• Basic Citrix account.
• For access with your own devices: smartphone for multi-level authentication.

For external staff, the internal SBB contact person must initiate the order for the user ID via the intranet and the order for the basic Citrix account via the SBB order portal.

For private devices and those not managed by SBB IT, access to the SBB network is secured via two-factor authentication. As well as an SBB user name and SBB password, an additional code must be entered when logging in. 

This may be a code sent by SMS or a request to confirm access via an authentication app for smartphones and tablets. For SBB staff, authentication via SMS is standard, but this requires the user’s personal phone number being published in the SBB phone book. Another option is to use an authentication app.

Various authentication apps are available free of charge in the different app stores – SBB IT recommends using Microsoft Authenticator app on smartphones.

Information for users with SBB notebooks. 

SBB Classic Workplace notebook.

• With SBB notebooks of type ‘Classic Workplace’ (order/initial use before 28.09.2021, with 6-digit device number [e.g. K12345]), access to Citrix still works via the preinstalled Citrix Receiver application as before, as long as the VPN connection via Citrix Gateway is active.

Workplace 2022 notebook.

• Users with an SBB notebook of type ‘Workplace 2022’ (order/initial use after 28.09.2021, device number with more than 6 digits [e.g. KR123ABCD]) use the Citrix Easy Access service via Citrix Workspace in the Windows start menu (as described here) to access Citrix – without a VPN connection and double login.
