Our passenger attendants interact directly with our customers as they perform a variety of tasks that are crucial for ensuring a pleasant customer experience and maintaining our company’s outstanding reputation.
You personally inform customers about the latest developments, ensure that customers are comfortable on their journey, check tickets, act competently and responsibly when disruptions occur and make sure that safety standards are complied with.
As a courteous and attentive host, you’re always there to help our passengers with a friendly smile – whether it’s early in the morning or late at night.
How to start your career.
Several training courses begin every year in different locations in Switzerland. After successfully completing your training, where possible, you will be given a job in the same region.
We offer eight months of full-time training (theory and practice) on full salary. You will complete this training by sitting an examination. After a four-month induction period, you will be ready to take on the full role of an SBB passenger attendant. You can now also complete the customer consultant training with a 60% part-time workload in Zurich.

As a prospective SBB passenger attendant, you must have an excellent customer focus, strong communication and conflict management skills as well as psychological and physical resilience. You must be happy to work independently, take on responsibility and to show assertiveness. You must be able to use a range of digital tools and applications and be willing to continually learn and develop your skills.
You must also meet the following requirements:
You must have successfully completed a three-year apprenticeship or the baccalaureate.
You must have very good verbal language skills in either German or French (at least level C2).
You must be prepared to learn two additional foreign languages (German, French, Italian or English) to level B1 verbal and A2 written.
You must be willing to work irregular hours which means having flexible leisure time.
You must be reliable, resilient, able to work as part of a team, and have a friendly manner and smart appearance.
The application process takes about two months and includes a medical examination. This takes place in Bern and takes half a day.

As a passenger attendant in the 24-hour operation cycle at SBB, you accompany our passengers across Switzerland at all times of the day or night – on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Irregular working hours are the rule at SBB – but you’ll also benefit from free ski slopes during the week, no longer having to go shopping during peak times and the ability to structure your free time flexibly.
You carry out your tasks in cooperation with colleagues from other SBB departments wherever our customers need you – for example on national rail routes, regional rail routes and at our stations. You can be an SBB passenger attendant anywhere in Switzerland.
Remuneration system.
We have a fair and progressive remuneration system. We reward individual performance, take the nature of the job market into account and create transparency. We have also been awarded the We Pay Fair label.
Your salary during and after training.
Your gross monthly salary including the thirteen month's pay depends on age, experience and location. The graphics show the salary scale excluding extra pay.
Extra pay.
Up to CHF 500 for night and Sunday work, depending on the shift plan (Hourly rate for night work: CHF 6 / hourly Sunday rate: CHF 16)
Flat-rate subsistance allowance: CHF 19 per day
Child benefit: CHF 320 for the first child (CHF 205 for each additional child) and other SBB benefits
