Before the works, when passenger trains ran on the Lausanne-Geneva line, the slower freight trains had to let them pass. To do this, they would stop on a track and resume their journey once the passenger trains had passed.

We have decided to invest in the railway infrastructure by building a passing track between Coppet and Founex. This work lets us ensure there is capacity for freight as well as for growing passenger traffic. 

• We have built a new central track
• We have adapted control points to incorporate safety installations
• We have also adapted the existing Le Pralet underpass to fit the new track

We remained within the budget of CHF 73 million.

Funding is provided by the Swiss Confederation (project to fund and expand the rail infrastructure (FERI)).
