The Lausanne–Geneva line has been under development since 2009, spearheaded by the Confederation and the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud. A series of improvements have already been implemented (crossing points at Mies and Chambésy, overtaking track at Founex, grade separation and 4th track Lausanne–Renens, etc.) and other major development projects are under way (Geneva and Lausanne stations, in particular).

This dynamic is now continuing in the Morges area (Denges–Morges–Perroy). The development of railway infrastructure is necessary in this sector because of the RER Vaud and the overlap of different types of traffic (long-distance services, regional, freight), which makes this section one of the busiest on the line.

The aim of the project is to create two new tracks over a distance of around 15km between Morges and Perroy: 

• Around 13km of track between Morges station and Perroy, including around 8km of tunnelled track.
• Approximately 2km of track between Allaman and Féchy (diversion of the existing line).

The creation of this new line will make it possible to:

• increase the service frequency of the Geneva–Lausanne RegioExpress and the Geneva–Lausanne InterCity trains to every quarter of an hour (compared with every half an hour currently).
• standardise the service frequency of every half an hour at all RER Lausanne–Morges–Allaman stations.
• improve freight transport capacity on the Lausanne–Geneva route.

It should be noted that these improvements are also dependent on the completion of other projects aimed at increasing capacity on the route (Lausanne, Geneva, Nyon, etc.), which are scheduled to come into service before the new double track between Morges and Perroy.

SBB carried out a preliminary study on the Morges–Perroy section between 2022 and the beginning of 2024, which the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) has acknowledged.

In September 2024, SBB received the mandate and funding to move on to the preliminary design stage, which involves detailing the costs, route and plans.

This will be followed a few years later by the construction project stage, culminating in the planning permission process and public consultation.

At this time, there is no timetable for completion as such.

During these various phases, SBB is committed to keeping the Canton of Vaud and the 13 municipalities along the route informed and ensuring transparency regarding all project developments.
