The underpass on rue du Léman has been rebuilt in order to meet the needs of both railway and road traffic.

From a railway point of view, we have designed the new structure to withstand the ever-increasing traffic on a long-term basis. The crossing is also longer than in the past in view of the forthcoming implementation of the 4th track and the leapfrog.

In terms of the roadway, we have worked with the municipality of Renens to ensure that the size of the new underpass will improve the flows of road traffic and human-powered mobility.

• We are extending the structure 11 m to the north;
• We widen the passage allowing the circulation in the same space of 3 modes of mobility (pedestrians, cycles and road traffic)
• We increase the height to 4.50m, thus removing the restriction for heavy vehicle traffic.
• And coordinate the reconstruction of the networks (water, gas, electricity, internet, etc.) that run under and near the structure.

The total cost was MCHF 8.5, of which MCHF 4.2 was borne by the Commune of Renens.
