In order to begin extending Genève Cornavin station underground, there are several infrastructure modifications that need to be implemented. One of these modifications is the creation of a sidings area for passenger trains that cannot be stabled at the station in Geneva. These facilities will be constructed on the network next to the Vernier-Meyrin-Cargo station.
This new area will be created alongside the existing freight train tracks in the industrial area between Vernier and Meyrin stations. It will be connected to the freight traffic tracks, known as Vernier-Meyrin Cargo. These four new sidings will be dedicated solely to accommodating passenger trains (SBB and SNCF) running on the network.
In addition to the four additional 420m-long tracks, SBB is constructing a platform for use by employees who drive and clean the trains.
