Deemed outdated, the track on this section has to be upgraded to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and local residents. This project will complete the modernisation of the railway stations in this sector which began in 2018: La Plaine, Russin, Satigny, Zimeysa, Meyrin and Vernier (2024).

To limit the impact on train services, SBB has divided the project into three stages.

Cross-overs in Satigny (February to spring 2024).

• Renewal of the existing railway infrastructure along the Peney-Dessus route (500 linear metres).
• Creation of two new cross-overs allowing railway traffic to be switched from one track to the other, limiting the impact of future works on train services by providing a bifurcation point.

This first stage is required in order to carry out the future works on upgrading the line, as this will improve the flow of railway traffic during the various stages of the construction project. These cross-overs will then be maintained to enhance railway network operations, particularly in the event of incidents.

Satigny–La Plaine (2026).

• Renewal of the existing railway infrastructure (concerns two linear kilometres).
• The upgrading of various structures: underpass in Peney (1), viaduct and footbridge in Allondon (3), underpass in Challex (4).
• Removal of the footbridge in Russin (2).

Satigny–Vernier (2027-2028).

• Renewal of the existing railway infrastructure (five linear kilometres).
• Removal of the underpass in Montfleury (1) and the former platform in Bourdigny (3).
• Upgrading of various structures: underpass in Les Sablières (2), Satigny (4) and Pré-Gentil (5).

Investment.
