Legal counsel, family man who loves to be in the water and is a fan of card and board games.
As a legal counsel you provide legal advice of all kinds: on technical rail-specific issues and on all kinds of other topics, such as procurement, construction, personnel, quality or communication. Your knowledge is sought after for legal issues such as contract reviews, real estate lease agreements, data protection or copyright issues. With your negotiation skills and a persuasive style of communication, you overcome the exciting and varied day-to-day challenges at SBB. Your work is meaningful.
Different to a law firm.
Our legal counsels deal with everything from small legal issues up to large court cases. Your versatile legal knowledge is therefore essential. At SBB legal issues are mostly handled internally. It is rare that additional external specialists are called in. As a legal counsel you support and supervise your cases until they are concluded. This means you have more targeted control over your successes. Interacting with colleagues across the whole company or partner companies enriches and adds to your legal activities.
Grow beyond yourself.
Our legal counsels develop and explore new legal questions that require a wide range of expertise due to the scope of their application. As one of the largest companies in Switzerland, there are always new unprecedented cases that you encounter in legal advice. You find creative solutions to these within the legal guidelines and based on comparable court decisions. In particular, you rely on your ability to grasp issues quickly and your conceptual and analytical thinking style. You continue to develop each day.
Your law degree and admission to the bar open the starting gates for your career as a legal counsel at SBB. Professional experience as a lawyer in a company, or specialisation in an area of law such as procurement, employment, competition, data protection or construction will give you an additional advantage. Experienced lawyers will be at a further advantage when applying. Your use your enterprising foresight and vision to meet customers’ needs. You enjoy project management and digital applications and they are part of your daily work routine.
So that you can adapt quickly to professional situations, communicate well and grasp facts and solve difficulties quickly, you must be a native speaker of either German, French or Italian. You also have a good grasp of one additional national language. You know how to convey complex topics easily so that colleagues without a legal background can understand without any problems.
Depending on your preferences, availability and qualifications, you can switch department to develop your skills within SBB. The door to many more exciting challenges is wide open for you: from leadership of groups of specialists to business management, there are many opportunities to advance at SBB.
At SBB you will find legal departments in the Passenger, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Cargo, Group (Human Resources, Communication etc.) Compliance Divisions and the specialist service which manages the Claims and Criminal Law Centre. Every day nearly 60 legal counsels achieve great things together.
We promote modern ways of working. Mobile working means being able to work outside the SBB workplace. You can work at home, on the move, when visiting customers or elsewhere within and outside of SBB. As a legal counsel, you can organise your work more flexibly thanks to Work Smart. And so you can be more flexible in your free time too. It is possible to work part-time as a legal counsel.
Given the range of our tasks and our responsibility, we rely on teamwork at SBB. Community is what counts for us.
Even if legal advice is structured in a traditional way: as a legal counsel you will have a great deal of agency and benefit from lots of freedom and independence in your work area. Exceptional tasks are often worked on and solved together in a team. Regular meetings of specialist teams are organised to discuss any challenges outside of ordinary that may be facing the company. It’s an opportunity to ask your questions, discuss cases and get advice from your team members. So you’ll keep up with your team and the specialist knowledge you need. Information is exchanged actively within the team, strengthening team spirit. SBB places a high value on this.
You work helps the company be successful in the long term: you have an early impact on defined area of business and advise the relevant business managers. You also serve as a contact person for a wide range of legal issues. You make it possible for SBB to plan, implement and complete projects, negotiate contracts and do even more to achieve great things.
