A wide range of challenges.

In your role as controller, you support SBB’s current and future functional capability. You skilfully decipher the complexity of the business and understand cause-and-effect relationships. You create transparency, ask constructive and critical questions, link pieces of information together and provide independent evaluation. As a controller, you focus on processes and maintain an overview. You work on projects that are unique in Switzerland in terms of their scale and level of innovation.

On the operational side, you work with business process management experts on core finance processes. In your work you implement various best practices and tools while taking account of the general parameters. You agree these with the project team or the business. Your position entails a wide variety of tasks involving various methods.

In controlling we rely on three different specialist disciplines to successfully optimise day-to-day operations:

Finance Business Partnering (FBP).

To improve the performance impact of SBB units, SBB Corporate Finance gears its business partnering to the line organisation. As co-pilots, the expert Finance Business Partners – who are part of the management team – pro-actively manage the business units assigned to them. They are responsible for the self-directed ambition from a general SBB perspective, overall performance and the systematic implementation of the performance management cycle.

Division Finance Center (DFC).

To ensure effective financial management of the division and compliance, overall responsibility for all financial planning, reporting and period-end processes is bundled. The DFC carries out strategic planning processes, liquidity performance management and regular performance reviews at divisional level. As the single point of contact for financial accounting, the DFC also deals with compliance and subsidy law issues and is responsible for internal control system and internal performance agreement processes.

Controlling Service Center (CSC).

The Controlling Service Centre ensures efficient, timely, uniform and high-quality standard and ad-hoc reporting. The CSC is the backbone of controlling at SBB. The CSC brings together the core processes and expertise in a central unit. It is responsible for the simplification, standardisation, automation, professionalisation and management of the planning process for reporting and financial statements. New technologies, innovative approaches and operational excellence are expertly deployed at this competence centre, paving the way to a centre of excellence.

Your degree in finance, business management or business informatics from a university or university of applied sciences enables you to successfully overcome the complex challenges of everyday working life.

The opportunities for further development afforded to our controllers are very dynamic and not systematically structured. Whether in a management role, a finance project management position or as a specialist: you have the chance to move to different divisions. You also get the opportunity to focus on new priorities, such as operational areas, processes or advising the line.

In the context of a specific Academy Programme oriented directly at the financial sector, we provide a variety of relevant content and training opportunities. These are adjusted for each individual and are oriented according to development pathways, while also taking into account the skills required at SBB in the future.
